SHfH works to build, and refurbish housing for people who are in housing need. We believe that communities are important and are able to work to solve their own problems.
We work with volunteers on site to help us to build and refurbish housing.
SHfH works to build new houses for people in housing need. Currently we are working at the Miller Road Project. This is an innovative project working with young people who are not in education, employment or training to build homes in Banbury in Oxfordshire.
The project is a unique partnership between Cherwell District Council who have provided the land, Southwark Habitat for Humanity who are developing the site and managing the construction process, Oxford & Cherwell Valley College who are managing the vocational training opportunities. Connexions will provide the life skills coach and work with the young people to ensure that they achieve their full potential.
In a time of serious housing need, empty property is a waste and can be a blight on local communities. SHfH has now developed a scheme to bring empty property into back into use - particularly those in need of substantial repair. We work with volunteers to repair the property and then rent it to a person in housing need.
SHfH works with volunteers to redecorate accommodation belonging to charities or other not for profit organisations who work with people in housing need. So far, SHfH has been able to redecorate flats and bedrooms in two women's refuges at no cost to them. We are currently working with the YMCA in West London.
